Two very nice Holidays in recent years in Northumberland have produced the following railway photographs. The first up are from 2006. The 2009 are currently in the new photos collection and will be transfered here later. I can recommend Breamish Valley cottages and Doxford Cottages as places to stay.

The first long distance railtour for quite a while saw 1001 off to Nottingham. Due to engineering works the trip around London from the south was very circuitous. From Kensington Olympia the route was via Willesden Jct high level, Gospel Oak, Camden Road, Dalston Jct, Temple Mills East Jct, Tottenham South Jct, South Tottenham East Jct, Junction Rd Jct, Carlton Jct and on to the Midland mainline.

As you may know I have a keen interest in the former Brighton to the Midlands cross country services via my website www.1s76.com
Due to the withdrawal of the train service this has left three bits of passenger railway with no passenger service over them. Factory Jct to Latchmere Jct, Willesden WL Jct to Acton Wells Jct and Acton Wells Jct to Acton Mainline. Because no formal closure notices have been posted ( and I Believe they would not be passed if they were ) a 'Parliamentary train needs to run to keep the line open. In classic DfT style this is a Tuesdays only 'bus' between Ealing Broadway and Wandsworth Road via Kensington Olympia. Departure from Ealing Broadway is 0945, Olympia 1025 with arrival at Wandsworth Road at 1055. The return is at 1315 calling at Olympia 1345 and arriving at Ealing Broadway 1425.
This was my trip on that service on the 13th January 2009.
There is now a Monday to Friday train between Kensington Olympia and Wandsworth Rd in the mornings with an afternoon return some pictures of the morning service are included. Updated 3/8/09.

A day off from work saw me have an early start from Brighton and head off to the Thames valley. a few hours at Pangbourne and Tilehurst caught a variety of trains.

The 1st Diesel Gala Day on the Wensleydale Railway nearly didn't happen at all, but some last minute efforts saved the day and even the weather performed well.

One of the few places in the capital with a variety of motive power, operators and stock, all within easy reach of Central London...and a frequent train service too.
Just added are a set of photos of the station and surroundings which will be used as part of a n scale model of the station I hope to start building this year. Last update 11/8/09.

Even today I still take railway photographs in and around my home town of Brighton. The variety has long gone but the railway industry is nothing if not colourful. With thirty years in the rail industry things have changed just a bit..... For some historic photos from the Brighton area just go to the Brighton Breezy collection in the 1970-1980's gallery.

With the transfer of 17 Wessex Electric units to the Southern Railway for Gatwick Express work they will now be working in pastures new. This is a collection of photos of the trains on test and being delivered. Latest photo added 2/7/09.

Apart from a couple of hours back in the 1990's I haven't been to Barnetby for probably 20 years. Class 56's, 37's 47's and 31's galore! For photos from this bygone era go to the Eastern Escapades collection in the 1970's and 80's collection.
Things have changed a bit since then, seem to be even more trains but a lot less variety! Anyway here are some images from a few hours in the Lincolnshire sunshine...well the sun eventually popped out. Arrived 1022 departed 1454 a nice day out from Brighton, every train spot on time except my last one from St Pancras to Brighton which was 15 mins late due to being held at Metropolitan Jct to allow a queue of late running Southeastern services past.

2008's holiday was to the Lake District with a lovely cottage / barn conversion just a 100 yards from the WCML. How did I manage that! Unfortunately the photo oppertunities were not good as the line was shrouded in trees. However I did manage to get a few usable shots. A week in the Derbyshire Peak district and a days escape from the wife and S.I.L. saw me whizzing over to the Hope Valley line. Photos taken at Hope, Edale and Cowburn Tunnel. I eventually found Tunstead Quarry...you'd think a big hole in the ground would be easy to find...still took me until well into the afternoon. More photos to add.

A visit to Selhurst Depot from work with my DSLR.....what were they thinking.

As the other half is from York we are often at the inlaws. She also has her hair cut here at Studio Jo in the Tadcaster Rd ( 600 mile round trip for a haircut! ). This gives me a chance to get out for some photos. Here are some from July 2007, Christmas 2007 and February, December 2008 and August / September 2009.
