Due to engineering works the trip around London from the south was very circuitous. From Kensington Olympia the route was via Willesden Jct high level, Gospel Oak, Camden Road, Dalston Jct, Temple Mills East Jct, Tottenham South Jct, South Tottenham East Jct, Junction Rd Jct, Carlton Jct and on to the Midland mainline. Arriving at Kensington Olympia is 1001...12 hrs later we would be back here. With the building work for the Olympic village in full swing 1001 takes the line towards Temple Mills East Jct at Lea Jct. Temple Mills area at Stratford. I think this was Temple Mille East Jct. Used be above ground the last time I was here....Ok that was back in the 1980's. Lots of work going on in the Stratford area with the Olympic village and HS1, International station etc. Somewhere in the Temple Mills area a Long boat and scull pass one another on a canal. Copper Mill Junction near Temple Mills. Our route around London took in a few curves that I had not done before, this is Tottenham South Junction to South Tottenham East Jct. 1001 approaches South Tottenham station, a signallers error put a terminating train into the platform in front of us that was not due to depart until 1000, our right time run was delayed by 20 mins as a result. A pair of tampers are berthed at Upper Holloway. With the budleah in full bloom 1001 is about to disappear into a tunnel.....I've yet to work out where this was. Approaching Carlton Road Junction. Tottenham North curve Tunnel. Power car S60118 on arrival at Nottingham. 1001 arrived at Nottingahm 5 mins early. The trailing power car. An unidentified Northern Trains class 158 with ex Midland Mainline liveried HST power car 43073. A class 158 and HST power car 43073. Permissive working of platforms at Nottingham allows two trains into the same platform. Throbbing down the East Coast Mainline we started to overhaul a rake of maroon Mk1 coaches, leading them was A4 Bittern on a return railtour from York to Kings Cross. Some people will not get out of the way from door windows! Back at Olympia a minute early at 2026 after a great day out. TRUST printout for the northbound run. Because no formal closure notices have been posted ( and I Believe they would not be passed if they were ) a 'Parliamentary train needs to run to keep the line open. In classic DfT style this is a Tuesdays only 'bus' between Ealing Broadway and Wandsworth Road via Kensington Olympia. Departure from Ealing Broadway is 0945, Olympia 1025 with arrival at Wandsworth Road at 1055. The return is at 1315 calling at Olympia 1345 and arriving at Ealing Broadway 1425. The service runs because of the withdrawal of the Cross Country services between Brighton and the Midlands that were the only passenger trains to use the Factory Jct cord. On this day I was the only person on the train as a member of staff on a duty pass plus the traincrew, driver route learning and a ticket inspector made five! A rather nice mixed freight train from Europe trails behind 92014 at Kensington Olympia. First day with my shiny new DSLR saw me taking a trip to Olympia. In 90 mins of nearly solid rain apart from the usual EMUs there were 4 freight trains and a light engine. 66575 heads north with 4E24: 1039 Grain to Leeds container train. Needed a higher shutter speed for this one! With the rain getting worse at Olympia 59004 heads back west with 6V18: 1243 Hither Green to Whatley Quarry empties. Hooray a class 60. 60025 heads east with an emty train of iron ore tipplers. 66079 with a train of loaded MGR hoppers. East Midlands trains have inherited a motley selection of liveries. Here 155383 in former Central Trains colours arrives at Barnetby enroute from Newark North Gate to Grimsby. 66248 passes through the station enroute to Immingham. Mmmmm Humberside Airport. Its over the hill and far away in 5 hours I saw one plane take off, probably won't be much of a queue at the check-in! 66138 heads east with a train of oil tankers forming 6D42:1135 Eggborough to Lindsey Oil refinery. 66061 heads back to Immingham with an emoty MGR train. 66043 heads west with an MGR train. 60026 was the second class 60 of the day. Enroute back to Scunthorpe with a train load of iron ore. A break from the steady stream of class 66's, 60076 heads back to Immingham with a train of empty iron ore tipplers. Freightliner 66615 heads east with 6E54 a train of oil tanks. from Kingsbury to the Humber oil refinery. 185145 heads back to Lancashire and Manchester Airport. 185145 passes 66178 at Barnetby. 153311 departs Barnetby with a Newark North Gate to Grimsby working. 66061 rolls into the goods loop with a train of MGR hoppers. 66087 rounds the curve past Barnetby East signalbox. 66087 with a loaded MGR train.

Photos taken at Hope, Edale and Cowburn Tunnel. I eventually found Tunstead Quarry...you'd think a big hole in the ground would be easy to find...still took me until well into the afternoon.
